Adjusting the disc brake

Tools

An Allen key of size 4 and 5 is required.

Check braking effect

  • Apply the brake lever to check whether both sides of the disc brake brake equally.
  • Try pushing the trailer with the brake applied.
    • The trailer can be pushed forward: both brakes must be adjusted more tightly.
    • The trailer veers to one side: the opposite side must be adjusted more tightly.
    • Both wheels block simultaneously and completely: the brake is correctly adjusted.

If the brake lever is difficult to apply, some cleaning agent or sewing machine oil can help to ease the movement of the brake lever.

Adjust braking effect

Carefully place the Qeridoo on the roof to comfortably adjust the disc brake.

The brake performance can be readjusted at several points:

  1. Brake cable knurled screw on the brake caliper
Turn the black knurled screw on the brake caliper out to increase the brake force.

  2. Y-distributor
Turn the knurled screw on the Y-distributor out to increase the brake force.

  3. Knurled screw on the brake lever
Turn the knurled screw on the brake lever out to increase the brake force. Make sure that the side cuts for inserting the brake cable are not aligned after adjusting.

  4. Brake caliper
With an Allen key of size 5 you can adjust the distance between brake pad and brake disc. A smaller distance increases the brake performance and a larger distance minimizes the brake performance. Note however that too small a distance can lead to grinding noises.

Adjust braking effect - adjustment tool

Alternatively, you can use the disc brake adjustment tool to set the braking effect.

Swap the brake discs for the disc brake adjustment tool to achieve an optimal distance between brake pad and brake disc.

  1. Pre-tensioning the brake cable holder
Loosen the clamp of the brake cable holder using an Allen key of size 5 and pre-tension the lever until the brake pads sit firmly on the brake disc. Make sure that the brake cable is tensioned and sits correctly in the holders on the brake caliper, the Y-distributor and the brake lever. Then tighten the screw on the brake cable holder again.

Then you can replace the adjustment tool with the brake discs again.

  • For checking, you can turn both wheels again and apply the brake. Check whether both wheels come to a stop simultaneously and abruptly.
  • If necessary, readjust the brake caliper whose wheel came to a stop later.

Friction-free run of the brake discs

Readjusting the brake caliper can cause the brakes to drag. If this is the case, you can realign the brake calipers. The brake caliper must be positioned so that the brake disc sits centrally between both brake pads. This ensures a friction-free run.

  • Loosen both screws on the brake caliper using an Allen key of size 5. The brake caliper can now be moved sideways into position.
  • Align the brake caliper centrally to the brake disc.
  • Tighten both screws of the brake caliper again.
  • Then check the friction-free run of the brake discs.
