The key points in brief

Handcart vs. bicycle trailer: the comparison

Handcart or bicycle trailer? Here we briefly and concisely compare both solutions for (child) transport with their pros and cons. The basic rule:

  • Handcart: Mainly suitable for transport of luggage, only on foot operation possible.
  • Bicycle trailer: For the safe and comfortable transport of children and luggage. Suitable for longer distances on foot or with the bike.

What advantages does a handcart have?

A handcart is a practical means of transport for equipment and luggage. The loading area offers generous storage space for large and small items. When not in use, it can be easily folded and easily stowed.

A handcart can be pulled without a bike.

Unlike a bicycle trailer, a handcart does not require a bike. It is only suitable for operation on foot, which makes it a great gadget on outings or vacation.

However, a conventional handcart usually has no harnesses or seats and is therefore not designed for the safe transport of children. There are also special models that are equipped with seats and harnesses.

Although the handcart is ideal for transporting lots of luggage, it's correspondingly bulky. Particularly on routes that go uphill, you'll quickly feel the weight. Still it's worth it for lots of luggage on short distances: you can transport a lot with it and use it for the beach visit or family outings as well as for BBQ evenings. And all that without a bike!

Good to know
With the optional handcart set from Qeridoo your cargo trailer becomes a handcart in just a few steps. Through the conversion, you can now use the cart on foot. Slide-on wheel deflectors with reflector strips ensure good visibility.

Bicycle trailer: practical all-rounder in everyday life

With bicycle trailers, two variants are distinguished: child bicycle trailers for child transport and cargo trailers for transport of luggage. Both can be used with the bike as well as on foot.

Child bicycle trailers are ideal for transporting one or two children. Special safety precautions ensure a safe and comfortable ride. As the name already suggests, the trailer is mainly designed for transport with the bike.

Child bicycle trailers are particularly comfortable and multifunctional.

However, you can operate the Qeridoo bicycle trailers in various operating modes. In buggy mode the bicycle trailer can be used as a stroller and thus for transporting children or luggage even without a bike.

What characterizes the child bicycle trailer?

The advantage of bicycle trailers lies primarily in the fact that you are on the road faster with the bike. Also longer distances are easily possible with the trailer, and for the bicycle trailer with e-bike even climbs are no problem.

A baby insert in the bicycle trailer ensures that you can transport even the very smallest without worries. The bicycle trailers offer plenty of room for your children and there is additional storage space for luggage, snacks and change of clothes in the trunk.

At Qeridoo, the standards for safe child transport are set particularly high. For safety during the ride – on foot or on the bike – the stable frame construction and the ergonomic design are responsible. The low center of gravity also minimizes the risk of the trailer tipping in a collision.

Safety features like the 5-point harness ensure that your child is safe in the bicycle trailer at all times.

The specially developed push handle simultaneously functions as a roll-over protection and reliably protects your child. The easily adjustable 5-point harness system secures your child at five points on the seat bench, so they have good support during the ride at all times.

Another point for best safety in the bicycle trailer are the innovative, patented head protectors. In case of a tip-over they ensure that a distance remains between head and ground. Reflector strips, rear light, safety flag and Z rear reflector provide additional visibility even in the dark.

The practical 3-in-1 canopy offers reliable protection from sun, insects and wind and at the same time ensures good air circulation inside the trailer.

Cargo trailer for the bike with optional handcart set

Cargo trailers for the bike are a great option for transporting luggage. They work similarly to handcarts, with the difference that they are pulled by the bike.

By the way: With the specially developed cargo insert plate you can also turn the child bicycle trailer into a cargo trailer in no time. So you can flexibly and without great effort switch between transport of children or cargo – ideal for parents who want to actively shape everyday life!

Conclusion

Handcart and bicycle trailer in comparison

Bicycle trailers are suitable not just for transporting luggage, but also for safe child transport. They are also approved for road traffic and are primarily pulled by a bike. They come in two variants: as cargo trailers or as child bicycle trailers.

Child bicycle trailers can be used particularly flexibly thanks to the various operating modes and the cargo insert plate. The cargo trailer can also be used on foot with the optional handcart set , but it primarily serves to transport luggage.

Classic handcarts are primarily used to transport luggage and shopping, but with some models, children can also be transported in them on short routes . The load limit is, as with bicycle trailers, depending on the model between about 40 and 50 kg.

The function is also clearly reflected in the equipment: Bicycle trailers are equipped with additional safety features, handcarts usually not. Both transport options can usually be compactly folded and well stowed in the car or the garage .

With the bicycle trailer, longer tours are possible. Whether for one or two children, you still have enough room for luggage and provisions. The classic handcart is practical for short uses, like festival visits, picnics in the park or shopping on foot. It depends strongly on what you want to use the vehicle for and whether you are mainly on the road with or without a bike.
